With a retail price then of $2,500 and with 317, 404 units produced, the 1968 mustang was one the best selling mustangs. It had 14 different colours to choose from including the famous tahoe turqouse, seafoam green, candy apple red and the most common mustang color, the presidential blue.
The ’68 mustang had 3 classes, the coupe, the convertible and the fastback and had 10 different models. The ’68 mustang did not have much exterior changes from the ’67, one was the deletion of the F-O-R-D letters if the front grille. Other changes were the AM/FM radio, and a rear window defogger for the coupe and the fastback. But the biggest change was found under the hood, it had the more powerful 428ci Cobra Jet V8 or better known as the 428 CJ engine. Which just meant more American muscle. Out of the 317, 404 units produced, 4,118 were the “Regional Specific” versions. The California Special (GT/CS) of California, and the High Country Special (HCS) of Denver, Colorado. Modifications of the regional specific versions are the shorter fibreglass trunk lid, it has the taillights of the 1965 thunderbird, some fog lights, and the side scoops with the GT/CS and HCS emblem on it.
The 1968 mustang is also one of hollywood’s favourite cars, as it was used in movies like The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo drift, Bill Durham, and of course it was Steve Mcqueen’s Bullit car in the movie Bullit. So it indeed is a nice car to have in your garage, just ask Tim Allen and Bob Seger, for they have one parked in each of theirs. Finding one right now would not be so hard, its just 10 times its original retail price, price tag for the ’68 mustang, $20,000-$30,000.
