History Behind The Desoto Classic Automobile

At the turn of the 20th Century, the Desoto was one of the most popular automotive brands in America. In 1928, the Desoto was revealed to the public by Walter P. Chrysler. It did not take long for this innovative car for its time to catch fire with the public. Its unique styling and luxurious rides made it a very popular cruising vehicle.

Marketing was key to bringing the Desoto to its level of popularity but the design of the car, made the marketing work. Mr. Chrysler first started the marketing machine of pushing the Chrysler Desoto line by using publicity stunts and rally car races to capture the imagination of the public. One of the major things that came forth from this car's development was the idea of using airflow to the advantage of the car itself. Wind tunnel tests helped determine drag and overall mechanical efficiency against the wind. One quirk of engineering test done, showed that the original design of the Desoto was actually more aerodynamic when the wind blew from the back of the car. Thus, Chrysler's engineers turned the body around.
